Best Omegle Alternatives in 2026
That Actually Work

Adults only. We may earn a commission from links on this page at no extra cost to you. Random video chat carries real risk, and no platform here can promise your safety.

Why Omegle shut down, and why it matters here

Omegle launched on 25 March 2009, built by an 18-year-old developer named Leif K-Brooks. You opened the site, clicked a button, and you were paired with a random stranger.

No registration, no profile, no age check. That raw simplicity is exactly what made it spread, and it stayed a fixture of internet culture for fourteen years.

It is worth understanding the ending properly, because most guides in this category skip it.

2009 to 2019: the format catches on

One button, one stranger, one camera. The lack of any account requirement is the whole product, and it is copied widely.

2020 to 2022: the pandemic surge

Traffic climbs sharply as people look for any way to connect. By December 2022 the site is drawing roughly 70 million visits a month, with the United States accounting for close to 30% of visitors and 18 to 24 year olds the largest age group.

The same design becomes the problem

Because anyone could join with no account and no age check, the platform became a known target for predators and was tied to dozens of serious abuse cases.

Lawsuits and new safety law

Pressure builds through litigation, sustained safety criticism, and new online safety legislation in jurisdictions including the United Kingdom.

8 November 2023: it closes

K-Brooks shuts the site down, citing unsustainable costs of fighting platform abuse and managing legal battles. As NBC News reported, the closure came shortly after a lawsuit accused the service of matching an 11-year-old girl with a man who later abused her, settled through mediation.

He noted that Omegle had used moderation tools and worked with law enforcement, but that the fight had become too much for one person to carry.

The demand never went away, which is why people still search for a replacement every day. The platforms that filled the gap have, for the most part, learned something: most now run active moderation, enforce age rules, and provide report and block tools the old site never had.

That is real progress. It is not the same as being safe.

Read this before you open any of them

This section usually sits at the bottom of articles like this one. It belongs at the top, because the single biggest lesson from Omegle's closure is that random video chat carries genuine risk and the platforms replacing it are only as safe as the way you use them.

These are adult services.

Every platform on this page states an 18+ rule, and most of them cannot meaningfully enforce it, because "no sign in" and "age verification" are opposites. If you are under 18, none of these are for you, and that is not a formality. The harm that closed Omegle happened to children on exactly this kind of platform.

Give away nothing

Your real name, address, phone number, workplace and social handles stay off camera and out of the chat.

  • Use a nickname only
  • Keep your background plain
  • No mail, street signs or ID in frame

Protect your connection

Some random chat sites can expose your IP address to the person you are matched with.

  • A VPN hides it
  • Close the tab rather than minimising it
  • Check camera permissions afterwards

Recognise the pressure patterns

The requests below are the common opening moves in both scams and grooming, and none of them are normal in a random chat.

  • Move to another app
  • Send a link
  • Ask for money or photos

Use the tools

Report and disconnect the moment something feels wrong. You never owe a stranger an explanation or another thirty seconds.

  • Next button, freely and often
  • One-tap report where offered
  • Block and close

If you landed here because you were blocked rather than because you wanted somewhere new, our guide on how to get unbanned from Omegle covers what actually still works.

Three kinds of platform in this space

People searching for an Omegle replacement usually want one of three quite different things. Sorting that out first saves you a lot of skipping.

No sign in

Open the site, allow the camera, start. Nothing to create, nothing left behind. This is the main list below.

15 platforms

Quick login

A Google sign-in or captcha before you start. Slightly less anonymous, considerably fewer bots.

3 platforms, kept separate

Adult random chat

Cam-to-cam pairing with real strangers rather than paid performers. Strictly 18+, in its own section.

3 platforms

A fourth thing people sometimes want is not random chat at all. If you were looking for performers rather than strangers, our best free cam sites and best Chaturbate alternatives rankings cover that properly, and our Chaturbate review and Stripchat review go deeper on the two largest.

All 15 compared

Ranked on how close each comes to the original experience, how fast you can start, how active the pool is, and how seriously the platform takes moderation, as set out in our editorial policy.

The fifteen in detail

1

OmeTV

The closest thing to a true Omegle replacement, with the largest active pool.

Huge user baseLive translationWeb, iOS, AndroidNo ads, no time limits

OmeTV runs in the browser and as a mobile app, with no time limits and no ads getting in the way. Country and gender selection are built in, and a live translation feature lets you talk to people who do not share your language.

The pool is large enough that matches come quickly at any hour, which is the single thing most of these platforms struggle with. The interface behaves the same on phone and desktop.

One caveat worth knowing: some users are asked to sign in or verify depending on the device, browser, or the features they want. It is not universally account-free even though most people never hit that.

Weak spots. Bans can feel quick and are hard to appeal. Some regions skew heavily male.

2

Camsurf

The cleanest free option if you hate sign-up screens. Chatting in five to ten seconds.

Zero registration200+ countriesCountry and language filtersStrict moderation

Open the site, allow your camera, and you are chatting almost immediately. No account, no profile, and nothing left behind when you close the tab.

It supports country and language filters, runs strict real-time moderation, and works across web, iOS and Android. With users in more than 200 countries it is a strong pick for meeting people far away or practising a language.

Weak spots. A smaller pool than OmeTV at off-peak hours, and free gender filtering is limited.

3

Chatroulette

The original random video roulette, launched in 2009 and still running under the same name.

No registrationCountry filterAI plus human moderationQuids credit system

There is no registration to start. You allow your camera, press start, and the famous next button skips you to a new face instantly.

It has changed considerably since its chaotic early years. It now runs both AI and human moderation, enforces an 18+ rule, and offers a country filter. A credit system called Quids powers some premium extras, but core random chat stays free.

Weak spots. The user pool has shrunk a long way from its peak, and Quids gates some features.

4

Chitchat.gg

A modern, safety-focused take on the Omegle formula with a clutter-free interface.

No signupAI moderationText and video

Free random text and video chat with global users, no signup, and full anonymity. It leans on AI moderation and a clean interface, positioning itself as a calmer alternative to the older roulette sites.

The matching is fast and the design is modern. It keeps the spirit of instant random chat while removing a lot of the chaos that made Omegle hard to use safely.

Weak spots. A smaller pool than the largest platforms, and fewer advanced filters.

5

OpenTalk

Browser-based with nothing asked up front, and the most modern safety tooling on the no-signin list.

No signupOne-tap reportingInstant auto-bansOptional verified app

Hit start and you are matched in seconds, with no signup and no app required. It layers AI moderation, a one-tap report button and instant auto-bans on top of standard random chat.

That combination makes it feel meaningfully safer than a lot of the older roulette clones. There is also an optional verified-profile mobile app for people who want safer one-to-one connections.

Weak spots. Newer, so a smaller pool than legacy sites, and verified profiles only exist on the app.

6

Shagle

More control than most free sites, with a country selector covering 70+ nations.

70+ country optionsVirtual masksTranslation supportGender filter is paid

The core random video chat is free, with virtual masks if you would rather not show your face. It runs in any browser with no app, loads webcams fast, and includes active moderation plus reporting tools.

Virtual gifts add an interactive layer for people who want more than a plain chat window.

Weak spots. Gender filtering requires a paid plan, and there are ads on the free tier.

7

Chatspin

Random video chat with AR face masks that double as an anonymity tool.

AR face masksAuto translationWeb and mobile appGender filter is paid

Gender, country and language filters are all here, plus automatic message translation so language is never a wall. The masks are genuinely useful if you want to hide your face rather than just have fun with them.

It sits in a reasonable middle ground between a bare-bones roulette and a feature-heavy app, with both a web version and a dedicated mobile app.

Weak spots. Gender filtering is premium only, and ads appear on the free version.

8

ChatHub

Built around breaking language barriers, with automatic real-time translation.

Real-time translationInterest matchingPrivacy focus

It pairs you with random strangers for video chat and supports interest matching to improve who you meet. Registration stays optional for basic chat.

If your main goal is talking to people in other countries without a shared language, ChatHub handles that better than most of this list.

Weak spots. A smaller pool than the biggest names, and advanced features may ask for a quick sign-up.

9

Chatrandom

One-click matching that has been running for years, with group rooms as well as one-on-one.

Large user baseGroup chat roomsBest filters are premium

It connects you to a random stranger fast, with optional gender and location filters on the paid tier. Beyond standard one-on-one chat it offers group rooms, which gives it more range than a pure roulette site.

Browser-based, simple, and reliable if you want instant matching without setup.

Weak spots. The useful filters are locked behind premium, and the free tier shows ads.

10

Bazoocam

Mini-games built into the chat, which makes the first two minutes far less awkward.

~40 human moderatorsBuilt-in mini-gamesGender filter

The games are the reason to pick it. Playing something with the person you are matched with changes the dynamic of an opening conversation more than any filter does.

The French-rooted site is actively moderated by a team of around 40 people, which keeps the atmosphere noticeably friendlier than the free-for-all sites, and it enforces an 18+ rule.

Weak spots. A smaller user base than the top names, and few features beyond the core chat.

11

Joingy

Anonymous text or video with interest tags, and nothing else in the way.

Text and videoInterest tagsLighter moderation

You choose text or video, optionally add interest tags, and it matches you with someone in the queue almost instantly. It runs in modern desktop and mobile browsers with no official app.

Moderation leans on user reporting rather than active review, which is worth knowing before you start.

Weak spots. Lighter moderation than the top picks, so use the next button freely. No dedicated mobile app.

12

Uhmegle

The most recognised post-Omegle clone, sticking close to the original formula.

190+ countriesVideo and textOne-tap reportingLighter moderation

Click start, allow your camera, and you are matched with a random stranger from one of more than 190 countries, with no signup and full anonymity. Interest matching is included.

It runs entirely in the browser with no download. If what you missed was specifically the Omegle feel rather than a better version of it, this is the closest.

Weak spots. Lighter moderation than the top names, and connections can be short and hit or miss.

13

Thundr

One of the fastest-rising platforms of 2026, with a large and very active crowd.

Fast matchingWeb and mobile appModeration still maturing

It connects you instantly with strangers worldwide by video or text, with no signup needed to start. The company claims more than a million users a day, which is its own unaudited figure rather than a verified one.

The matching is fast and the energy is high, which is genuinely the appeal.

Weak spots. As a newer entrant its safety tooling is still developing, and there are fewer extras than established brands offer.

14

StrangerLine

Text, voice and video in one place, with the option to keep a connection going.

Three chat modesFriend requestsNo registration

It pairs you with random people worldwide instantly, with no registration. What sets it apart is that you can send a friend request before you leave if a conversation actually clicks, which almost nothing else here offers.

It runs in the browser, works on mobile, and keeps the core random chat completely free.

Weak spots. Newer, so a smaller pool, and it is still building its user base.

15

OmeFree

Lightweight and privacy-first, with video streamed directly between browsers.

Peer-to-peer WebRTCAd-freeMinimal moderation

No signup, no download, no payment. Click start and you are matched for a one-on-one video chat with a stranger.

It is built on peer-to-peer WebRTC, so your video streams directly between browsers with no server in the middle, and the site says it collects no personal data. That is a genuine privacy advantage and, as a trade, it also means less can be moderated centrally.

Weak spots. Newer with a smaller user pool, and fewer filters and extra features than anything above it.

Three that ask for a quick login

The fifteen above all start with no account. These three are strong Omegle-style platforms that ask for a login or verification first, so they are kept separate rather than padding the main list.

The login is not only friction. It is the main thing standing between a platform and a bot problem, and in two of these cases it is also an age check.

A

Emerald Chat

Markets itself directly as the new Omegle, and backs it with interest matching.

24/7 AI and human moderationKarma systemGoogle sign-in or captcha

Interest tags pair you with people who share them, which produces noticeably more relevant matches than pure random. You start with a Google account or a quick captcha, so it is not fully anonymous, but that step keeps bots out.

It runs text, video and group modes, with a karma system that scores behaviour and gender filtering on the paid tier.

Weak spots. Not anonymous at signup, and the gender filter sits behind a premium plan.

B

Camdiv

Launched in 2025 with moderation built in from day one rather than bolted on later.

Frame-by-frame AI detectionOne-time 18+ check195+ countriesNo paywall

It connects you by video, voice or text across more than 195 countries. Signing in takes around ten seconds through a Google login and a one-time 18+ check, after which you stay anonymous to the people you meet.

AI face detection checks every frame to pull minors and explicit content quickly. Given what closed Omegle, that is the most relevant feature any platform in this category can offer.

Weak spots. Requires a Google sign-in, and as a newer platform the pool is still growing.

C

Azar

The largest platform in the category, owned by Match Group, with 500 million downloads.

Real-time voice translation190+ countriesSmart matchingApp-focused

It pairs you instantly with strangers worldwide for one-on-one video and includes real-time voice translation, which is the best implementation of that feature on this page.

Corporate ownership shows in the polish and in the moderation, and the matching system improves the more you use it.

Weak spots. More app-focused than browser-first, and some features use a coin or reward system.

Adult random chat (18+)

This section is strictly for adults.

The platforms below match you with a random stranger by webcam rather than putting you in front of a paid performer, which also means less is curated and less is moderated. Never share your real name, location or social handles, and use the report and disconnect tools the moment anything feels wrong.

A

Dirtyroulette

The closest adult version of the original roulette format.

No registrationWebcam, audio and textLight moderation

An adult-only random video chat that pairs you the moment you press start, with a next button to skip exactly like the classic format. It runs directly in the browser.

It is the purest random adult roulette of this group, since you are matched with real strangers rather than paid performers.

Weak spots. Light moderation, so expect explicit content immediately, and the user base skews heavily male.

B

Flingster

Anonymous adult video chat with optional virtual masks, which few adult sites offer.

Virtual masksInterest and room matchingVIP for filters

The mask feature is the reason it stands out. Being able to take part without showing your face is a real privacy option rather than a gimmick.

Basic random chat is free, with a VIP tier unlocking gender and location filters. Despite being around for roughly a decade it still feels current and connects quickly.

Weak spots. The useful filters require VIP, and it is oriented toward casual hookups rather than conversation.

C

LuckyCrush

Automatically pairs men with women and women with men, so you never match same-gender.

Free to start, no signupBuilt-in translationMen pay per minute

You start a video chat with a stranger within about ten seconds. The opposite-gender pairing removes the endless skipping that makes open adult roulette tedious.

It leans more curated and flirty than a free-for-all. Men buy minutes to keep chatting after the free start.

Weak spots. Men pay per minute once the free trial ends, and there is no same-gender matching option at all.

How to choose

Closest to the real thing

OmeTV or Chitchat.gg. Both nail the core experience with better safety and no account.

The original roulette feel

Chatroulette, from the people who invented the format.

You hate sign-up screens

Camsurf or OpenTalk. Chatting in seconds with nothing handed over.

Language is a barrier

ChatHub or Chatspin for text translation, or Azar if a login is fine.

You want filters and control

Shagle or Chatrandom, though the best filters usually sit behind a small fee.

Something more playful

Bazoocam, for the mini-games that carry the first two minutes.

Safety is the priority

Camdiv if you accept a login, since frame-by-frame checking is the strictest here. Otherwise OpenTalk.

Better matches, generally

Chat during evening hours in North America or Europe, keep your camera active, and hit next often.

Questions people ask

Is Omegle coming back?

No. It closed permanently on 8 November 2023 and there has been no credible indication of a relaunch. Sites using similar names are unrelated clones rather than the original service returning.

Why did Omegle shut down?

Its founder cited the unsustainable cost of fighting platform abuse and managing legal battles. The closure followed years of serious abuse cases and came shortly after a lawsuit alleging the service matched an 11-year-old girl with a man who later abused her, which was settled through mediation.

What replaced Omegle?

No single platform did. OmeTV is the closest all-round replacement, Chatroulette still runs the original format, and Uhmegle is the most faithful clone. The demand spread across a dozen or more sites rather than consolidating.

Are these alternatives safer than Omegle was?

Most are, in the sense that they run active moderation, enforce 18+ rules, and provide report and block tools that Omegle lacked for most of its life. None of them is safe in an absolute sense, and the ones with the lightest moderation are marked as such in the table above.

Which ones work without signing in?

All fifteen in the main list. Emerald Chat, Camdiv and Azar ask for a quick login or verification, which is why they are in a separate section.

Are they free?

Core random chat is free on every platform listed. Several put gender filtering behind a paid tier, and a few show ads on the free version. Only LuckyCrush, in the adult section, charges men per minute after the free start.

Is there a text-only option?

Joingy, Chitchat.gg, OpenTalk, Uhmegle, Thundr, StrangerLine and OmeFree all support text as well as video. Joingy is the most straightforward if text is all you want.

Are there adult versions?

Yes, and they are in their own clearly marked section above. They differ from cam sites because you are matched with a random stranger rather than watching a paid performer.

If performers are what you actually want, our best free cam sites ranking is the better page.

Can these sites see my IP address?

Some can expose it, particularly peer-to-peer platforms where video streams directly between browsers. A VPN hides it. This is worth doing regardless of which platform you pick.

I was banned. Can I get back on?

It depends on the platform and how the ban was applied. Our guide on how to get unbanned from Omegle covers the methods that still work and the ones that stopped working.

The bottom line

Omegle is gone, and random video chat is both bigger and better moderated than it was. The fifteen sites here carry the same instant connection with a stranger anywhere in the world, and every one of them starts without an account.

What has not changed is the underlying risk. Protect your personal information, keep your background plain, use the report and block tools, and remember that you can leave any chat with a single click.

If random pairing turns out not to be what you wanted, the best free cam sites and best Chaturbate alternatives rankings cover performers, and our best dating apps ranking covers meeting people with intent rather than at random. And if the appeal was conversation on demand rather than a real stranger, our ranking of the best AI girlfriend apps answers that differently again.
